Award-winning author Sally Harper Kenn shows, with clear step-by-step photographs and stunning model photography, how to make five different silk flowers: the rose (with two techniques the traditional method, and a special quick method that she has developed), a poppy, an anemone, a peony and a narcissus or daffodil - the flowers she is most often requested to make in her day-to-day work as an award-winning milliner. By learning how to make them yourself, you ll be able to transform any hat or headpiece into a work of art. Silk flowers can also be used as stand-alone brooches, as matching corsages, as fascinators or adornments. A must for anyone interested in DIY fashion and crafts. Learning how to make your own silk flowers means you can accurately choose exact colours to match an outfit or hat a huge asset. And you can use real silk, not the inferior quality fabric which many shop-bought silk flowers are made from, even the really expensive ones. The book also contains full details of the tools and equipment you'll need, and where to find them (with worldwide suppliers listed).

Silk flower making began for Sally with a love of textiles, a passion for sculpture and an MA course, after which she set up her company Sharper Millinery. Coming from a creative background, she was always encouraged to try new techniques and to follow her dreams by very supportive parents, but she really has to thank her very stylish Great Aunt Millie for introducing her to millinery. Sally creates hats for weddings, the races and special events, and she often uses silk flowers as a way of matching the colours in a client s outfit to their hat or head-piece. Many of her hats have won awards at Racing ladies days for being the best hat or complimenting the outfit for the best-dressed lady. She launches a summer and winter collection each year as she develops new techniques and styles for brides and racing ladies. For Sally, millinery is 'artwork for your head something totally unique. Wearing a one-off, handmade headpiece gives the wearer confidence, poise and elegance that nothing else can quite match.'
