This book attempts to meet the challenge of practical thinking whether religious or secular in the complex world of rapid change. To think and act practically and strategically in fresh and innovative ways is essential in the world of the unknown and unpredictable for survival in particular if managing an organic church for its mission in the rapidly changing world, traditional or contemporary. To achieve its objectives as an organic church, it must have to employ a radical approach with appropriate mechanism for self-maintenance. It must also have a strategic growth element whilst achieving its mission objectives in evangelism and ministry in reaching out to the world as well as keeping and maintaining the core members in the church. The material of this book is the finding of my doctoral work - Managing Change in the Church of England: Church Leaders in the Diocese of Chelmsford. The study identified how some church leaders and their congregational members in the Diocese of Chelmsford were able to cope with the financial crisis facing the national and the local churches. They were able not only to work toward a policy to become self-financing churches but were also able to manage change for survival and growth. The method adopted by these churches should, inevitably, be useful for other churches: Traditional, Evangelical, Independent and also the Faith-based organisations and similar settings, large or small, that are declining and struggling financially to enable them to grow and survive as found among the church leaders studied.
