Following family tradition, Norman was originally destined to be an engineer in the shipyards of the River Clyde in Scotland. A chance meeting on a rain filled winter´s evening with an old school friend changed the direction of his life forever. He defied his father; quit his `secure´ engineering apprenticeship to train to become a Chef. As well as enjoying the creative but high-pressure world of the kitchen, he re-discovered the joys and satisfaction of education, and became a Senior Lecturer in a College of further education. His underlying ambition however, was to open a family-run Bistro-style restaurant in the manner of the French or Italian. He quit his job in the College and opened his dream Bistro-Restaurant near to the Royal Navy Clyde Submarine Base, which quickly obtained a reputation far beyond the local area. In nineteen-ninety, the family moved to Spain, buying a Hotel and Restaurant in the beautiful seaside town of Jávea, on the Costa Blanca. Since retiring, Norman has enjoyed travelling around Europe in his old campervan. He has written travel articles, dabbled in local politics and amateur sculpture. 'Malevolent Karma' is his first novel. It has been translated into Spanish by Virginia Murillo Benedicto as 'Malévolo Karma'
Malevolent Karma What elements dictate destiny? Could some higher force direct our fate? The year is nineteen-hundred and eighty-five. One year after the bombing of the Grand Hotel in Brighton which almost wiped out Margaret Thatcher´s entire Cabinet, the IRA have an opportunity for another spectacular atrocity. The Cold War is at its height. NATO is about to launch the biggest ever, Europe-wide, Soviet Attack War Simulation. HMS Resolution, one of Great Britain´s Polaris Nuclear Submarines, has a key role to play in the War Games Simulation. The convergence and crossing of the life-paths of three young boys, born on the same day, thousands of miles apart, provides the conduit for a joint ETA and Provisional IRA attack with Global Peace implications. Malevolent Karma. This is a very human story of love, manipulation and betrayal, wrought by cynical adults upon the naivety of innocent young boys.
