Synopsis

Charles Webster Leadbeater was ordained an Anglian priest in 1879 but, just four years later, a deep interest in spiritualism and the occult caused him to sever his ties with the church and to join the Theosophical Society, where he soon became a high official. Leadbeater traveled extensively in India and described meeting and training under Ascended Masters who, (according to Madame Blavatsky), were the secret chiefs of the Theosophical movement. One important result of this experience was his classic occult manual "The Masters and the Path", which explores the route of Discipleship under the guidance of Ascended Masters. An inspiring and uplifting work, eloquently written, it reveals innumerable details concerning the Way of the Masters, exploration of the Inner Planes, the disciplines required for advancement, and the plans gradually being put in place by these advanced Beings for the unfolding of human consciousness.

Présentation de l'éditeur

There is only one reason why I should write this Foreword to the book written by my honoured colleague. It speaks of many things which have hitherto been studied and discussed within a comparatively small circle, consisting of students well versed in Theosophical knowledge, and ready to study statements concerning regions which they could not yet enter for themselves, but hoped to enter later, and then to verify for themselves the statements made by their seniors. The rapid changes in the world of thought, arising from the nearness of the Coming of the World-Teacher, render useful some information as to a part of the world in which He lives, information which may, perhaps, to some extent prepare the public mind for His teachings. Be that as it may, I desire to associate myself with the statements made in this book, for the accuracy of nearly all of which I can personally vouch; and also to say on behalf of my colleague as well of myself, that the book is issued as a record of observations carefully made and carefully recorded, but not claiming any authority, nor making any demand for acceptance. It makes no claim to inspiration, but is only an honest account of things seen by the writer. ANNIE BESANT

Biographie de l'auteur

Charles Webster Leadbeater (16 February 1854 – 1 March 1934) was an influential member of the Theosophical Society, author on occult subjects and co-initiator with J. I. Wedgwood of the Liberal Catholic Church. Originally a priest of the Church of England, his interest in spiritualism caused him to end his affiliation with Anglicanism in favour of the Theosophical Society, where he became an associate of Annie Besant. He became a high-ranking officer of the society, but resigned in 1906 amid a scandal. Accusations of his detractors were never proven and, with Besant's assistance, he was readmitted a few years later. Leadbeater went on to write over 69 books and pamphlets that examined in detail the hidden side of life as well as maintain regular speaking engagements. His efforts on behalf of the society assured his status as one of its leading members until his death in 1934.
