If the cross was the end of the story, we would have no hope. But the cross isn't the end. Jesus didn't escape from death, he conquered it. Peter Dawson's conviction that this is the stunning truth shines brightly in this gem of a book, as he shares sermons he has preached over a lifetime of walking with the Lord. He leads us through the events of Holy Week, to the foot of the cross, on to the empty tomb and beyond, to the Jesus who is among us today. With Biblical teaching, personal illustrations and good humour, these insightful and down-to-earth sermons supply encouragement aplenty for all who seek to find the relevance of the radical story of Jesus for their lives today.

Peter Dawson, a Christian with evangelical tendencies, is an ordained Minister of the Methodist Church. He has earned his living in secular employment in education and education politics, at the same time conducting a preaching and pastoral ministry in various churches. A graduate of the LSE, he was for ten years the headmaster of an Inner London mixed comprehensive school for two thousand pupils. His account of that, entitled Making a Comprehensive Work: the Road from Bomb Alley, was a best seller. He was subsequently the General Secretary of the Professional Association of Teachers, the leader of a team of Ofsted school inspectors and a UK delegate to the economic and social assembly of the EU in Brussels. He was appointed an OBE for services to education, then served for twelve years as a lay member of the Employment Appeal Tribunal in London, hearing appeals against the findings of local employment tribunals. He was a regular newspaper columnist and broadcaster in his heyday. He has been happily and securely married for sixty years, and is a sponsor of the Family Education Trust, which promotes traditional family values.
