This novel weaves an enthralling tale leading from 1990 into our near future in 2040. It's set in the UK (the ship-shattering shores of Wales, the Industrial North, atomic power stations, Cambridge, London); the US (Chesapeake Bay, Washington); the deserts and capital of Iraq and amid Uganda's jungles and towering volcanoes. Adventure, romance and humour. Fascinating reading for people for whom science, IT, language, Africa, the environment, the surveillance society, terrorism, global warming and the recession are of interest. Also for yachties, bikers, Radio 4 listeners, divers, railway buffs, and walkers. An underlying theme is the battle for hearts and minds between dictatorships and democracies in our century. Your author is an Anglo-Scot, whose forebears were seafarers from Orkney and Hull. He is a Cambridge trained historian and computer scientist. The cartoon shows him under surveillance as a consultant in Saddam Hussein s Ministry of Planning at the first Gulf war, where he was later a hostage until he escaped.

He was educated at Bishops, South Africa, Hurstpierpoint, Emmanuel College, Cambridge and Magdalen College, Oxford. He lives on a canal boat in Cheshire.
