Synopsis

This guide has been designed specifically to support early years providers in the delivery of effective staff supervision. Although the Early Years Foundation Stage (FYFS) sets out the framework of expectations in relation to supervision, there are still widely differing ideas as to what good supervision looks like in practice and how it can be provided by a busy early years manager.

Supervision for Early Years Workers provides a definition of staff supervision, explores its applicability to early years settings, provides a framework for implementation and includes templates which support effective use of the model. The authors also explains how supervision links to maintaining safe settings for children and the difference it can make to outcomes for children, and explores the emotional impact that safeguarding children can have on practitioners.
