The fragmented societies of the 21st century provide little help for people with their emotional and behavioural self-development. They tend to establish division rather than unity, separation rather than togetherness and relentless competition rather than co-operation and support. Emotionally our society just throws people in at the deep end, to either sink or swim. We don't get much help or support towards getting to know ourselves, or to find that deep sense of inner peace, enjoyment, meaning or purpose in our life.
This book is essentially about the basic mental resources needed as a foundation on which the reader can build a successful happy and fulfilled life. If the book is approached with this in mind you can become intimately involved with the suggestions made and quickly realise how they can help you become the person you really want to be.
As you read the book it will help you, in an unobtrusive way, to move towards personal happiness in your own way, and that is always the best way for you. This twenty-first century book will enable you to cope with all that society throws at you, in a calm, relaxed and effortless way and be an achiever in life.
People often believe they have the skills and ability to change their lives in a positive way but are held back, experiencing difficulties with low self-belief, negative emotions and disappointing behaviours. These can be daunting to overcome. However the author goes to some lengths to explain, in a psychological context, how the brain works and this knowledge can be used to improve your quality of life in many positive ways.
The book takes you on an interesting and informative adventure in closing the gap between emotional intelligence and self-development. It can open your creative mind to new possibilities for positive change. It is an interwoven journey of discovery in many intricate ways that are nevertheless simply interpreted. You, the reader is invited to embark on a personal journey, using your mind in an effective way. The only limits are set by your readiness to think, observe and explore.
The book provides the missing key to personal success. It is not a 'quick fix' that needs the buzz of a motivational 'high.' The author invites you to make yourself a priority in your life and offers you the opportunity to read and ponder. The writer gently draws in the reader to consider such low key but mind-blowing effective concepts as 'detachment' and 'abundance' and shows you how to work with them to become a winner in life.
The book is not a place for jargon or mystique; it is plain language for the ordinary person. It gives you options in finding your own way and trust the progress you are making and feel emboldened to take the next step... and the next. This book is the key - your dreams are your own.

Before becoming a professional therapist Michael worked for many years in the commercial world as a chartered shipbroker. For the last eight years he was appointed the UK representative of the Leipzig International Trade Fair, at the time arguably the largest trade fair in the world and certainly the oldest. In the 1980's he organised through the patronage of Lord Ted Willis, a reception for the Leipzig Fair in The House of Lords. This is the only occasion to Michael's knowledge that a trade fair has held a reception in this illustrious and historic setting. Having studied techniques of stress control and self-development psychology for his own benefit, Michael became increasingly motivated to pass on to other people what he had learnt and after some deliberation he decided to leave the commercial world and train as a professional therapist. After becoming professionally qualified Michael started his own therapy practice in Rochester, Kent. Shortly afterwards he was invited by the seven resident GPs at the local Gun Lane Medical Centre to become their Medical Practice Stress Therapist. In the 1990s together with a long-term cancer patient Michael started The Medway Centre for Cancer Support and Care. A number of therapists were involved with this project. In September 2002 he started working at the 'Integrated Care Centre' in Longfield Kent. Michael was one of the original therapists who helped develop this 'flagship centre' into the successful enterprise it became. In December 2003 Michael was appointed one of the original members of the 'Public and Patient Involvement Forum' working in partnership with The Medway National Health Trust and Medway Maritime Hospital. He became an Associate Member of The Royal Society of Medicine and registered with 'The Complementary and National Health Care Council (CNCH), the UK regulator for complementary healthcare. Positions Held: Member of the Ethics & Disciplinary Committee of The Society of Stress Therapists. Member of the Joint Training Committee of The Society of Stress Therapists. A Director of WellMind Training Ltd. A Director of the Council of the Society of Stress Therapists. Coordinator for the Southern Region of The Society of Stress Therapists. Founder and Editor of the Journal of Stress Management. Fellow and Life member of the Society of Stress Managers (FSSM)
