Synopsis
Ten by Ten is the brainchild of two local actors and theatre practitioners, Lisa Druett and Matt Lewney. They took as their starting point for this project the sad but universal truth that there are many many more talented actors and writers than there are professional opportunities for them to display their skills- a fact reinforced by the people they have met through the many and varied strands of their work in West Yorkshire and the North of England. Writers and actors cannot practice their skills in isolation; they need TV, Radio and Film companies and theatres to have those opportunities. More importantly they need each other. An actor craves a good script. A writer needs to hear the words they have written being brought to life by a talented actor. And in this day and age of the internet and small theatre venues - there’s nothing to stop writers and actors coming together, to collaborate projects which may go on and have commercial success or at the very least bring them to the attention of those very same TV, film, radio and theatre creatives who can give them work. Hence Ten by Ten. Ten writers, producing ten scripts, being brought to life as a showcase of the very best of local acting talent. So the aim of this project is twofold. To provide these people with a showcase by which to demonstrate to the world what a talented bunch they are. (Incidentally- not all the writers taking part are first and foremost theatre writers- the project sees poets and novelists trying their skills in an area new to them.) And secondly to enable them to make links with each other- links which will hopefully engender creative partnerships of a longer term than just one night. I said twofold. Of course there’s another reason. Writers and actors love writing and acting. We hope you enjoy the results of this collaboration.
