Synopsis

AUTOCOURSE are proud to publish a fully revised English language edition of this book which showcases the stunning photography by Dr Benno Muller, a gifted amateur, who captured candid portraits of the racing drivers of the decade with his trusty Leica.

To compliment the photos, Hartmut Lebrink, a veteran of more than 500 Grands Prix, has supplied beautifully crafted biographies which are bursting with insight on the drivers who risked their lives when the sport was incredibly dangerous.

Within the pages of this book can be seen true heroes, masterfully captured by one of the

best portrait photographers of that time. These men were then the leading and supporting

actors, as well as a few extras, in that big and always exciting drama called Formula 1.

We are not here considering any pecking order or hierarchy. Being a hero - that described

every single one of them slipping into the fragile cars of that time and

racing on one of the circuits of that time, putting his life at stake and,

far too frequently, paying the highest price.

AUTOCOURSE are planning to produce a series of companion volumes, with Faces of Formula 1: The Seventies already a work in progress.

À propos de l?auteur

Hartmut Lebrink has covered Formula 1 racing over six decades and new many of the personalities featured personally. His succinct biographies vividly bring to life the lives, and on many occasions, the deaths of this band of daredevils who made up the Grand Prix circus.

For just over a decade, Dr Benno Muller, the Doctor from Freiburg, took himself to nearby racing circuits to capture of the faces of racing drivers of the day. The Carrs they raced held no interest tfor him. He was only concerned with expressions of the elite group of men who risked their lives every time they went onto the track.

Jörg-Thomas Födisch is a notable author who has produced numerous books on the German nobleman Count Graf Berge Wolfgang von Trips, who lost his life at the 1961 Italian Grand Prix when he was on the cusp of becoming that year's World Champion.
