When murder strikes at a village fete, even the crows are asking, who wanted the scarecrow dead? The sun is shining, the bunting is fluttering, and the village of Staunton is alive with the excitement of its annual fete and scarecrow festival. But amid the laughter and merriment, darkness lurks. Before the first morning is done, a woman, dressed as a scarecrow, is found dead in an isolated spot on the edge of the village. Inspector Leslie Dykeman and the irascible Sergeant Stanley Shapes, attending the festivities in an unofficial capacity, are swiftly drawn into a case riddled with secrets, envy, and deception. Behind Staunton's picture-perfect charm lies a tangled web of old grudges and hidden motives, any of which could be a reason to kill. But can Dykeman and Shapes untangle all these secrets and lies, and answer the crows' question, who wanted the scarecrow dead? Death of a Scarecrow is the sixth book in Ben Westerham's classic murder mystery series, set in early 1960s Oxfordshire. Blending intrigue, humour, and a touch of romance, this is a perfect read for fans of traditional whodunnits. Purchase your copy now, curl up on a sofa and lose yourself in a classic murder mystery that comes complete with a touch of romance and a streak of humour.

Ben is the author of two crime and mystery series. The David Good private investigator stories are set in 1980s London, featuring a PI in tune with his neck of the woods and in possession of some distinctly pliable morals. The Banbury Cross Murder Mystery stories are classic murder mysteries set in the rural market town of Banbury during the early 1960s, featuring the curmudgeonly Inspector Leslie Dykeman and the irascible Sergeant Stanley Shapes.
Ben's writing places an emphasis on strongly developed characters and invariably comes served with a side-order of humour.
Born in London, Ben now lives in rural Northamptonshire in the English Midlands, with his family and a heavily over-worked computer.
He writes just about every day and some of the resulting stories and other material is made available for free exclusively to readers who register here http: //www.benwesterham.com/subscribe/.
