For more than seven hundred years, the Porter family has guarded a secret.
Twenty-two-year-old Ele Porter has spent most of her life knowing her father from a distance. Robert Porter provided for her, watched over her and remained almost entirely absent from her life.
Then he dies.
Ele inherits his secluded ancestral estate, a collection of unanswered questions-and an ancient gold ring set with a blood-red stone.
According to family legend, more than seven centuries ago an ancestor named Thomas Porter trapped the Devil. In exchange for his freedom, the Devil surrendered his ring and the extraordinary power it contained.
When worn, the ring allows its bearer to uncover two things hidden inside another person: their deepest desire and the sins they would do anything to conceal.
For Ele, it offers something irresistible.
Certainty.
At first, the ring seems capable of doing genuine good. Secrets can be uncovered. Lies exposed. People found. Danger prevented. But every truth comes without the one thing Ele needs most: context. And as she begins relying on the ring, the boundary between using its power and needing it becomes increasingly difficult to see.
Following the trail left by her father, Ele uncovers generations of Porters who struggled with the same temptation. Some used the ring for wealth. Some for protection. Some believed they could control it. Others desperately tried to destroy it.
All of them failed.
Because the ring cannot be destroyed.
It can only be returned.
As Ele searches for a way to end her family's inheritance, she is drawn towards Saint Bartholomew's Hollow and the figure who has been waiting there far longer than any human lifetime.
But the Porter family may have misunderstood its legend from the beginning.
Perhaps Thomas Porter never defeated the Devil.
Perhaps the Devil never lost his ring.
And perhaps seven hundred years was never a punishment.
Some secrets should stay buried. Some truths should never be known.
The Devil's Ring is a gothic supernatural thriller about family, temptation, grief and the seductive danger of certainty-asking whether knowing someone's darkest secrets could ever mean truly knowing them.
