Synopsis

"Accompanying Peter Hennessy s acclaimed BBC Radio 4 programme of the same name, Reflections sees one of the UK s preeminent historians interview 12 political heavyweights who ve shaped Britain over the last 20 years. From one of our longest-serving Prime Ministers and three of the Conservative leaders who stood against him and oversaw more than a decade of Tory opposition, to dominant figures of late Thatcherism, stalwarts of successive New Labour cabinets, and leaders of the Liberal Democrats past and present, Hennessy brings his characteristic style to each encounter. Every interview here is not only an honest and frank assessment of a political career, but also serves as an interim biography peppered with insights and bursts of now-it-can-be-told revelation. The politicians included in this volume are: Tony Blair, Michael Heseltine, Vince Cable, Margaret Hodge, William Hague, Harriet Harman, Michael Howard, Paddy Ashdown, Sayeeda Warsi, David Blunkett, Iain Duncan Smith and Kenneth Baker.
