Synopsis
La pratique d’Oliver Frank Chanarin a depuis longtemps repoussé les limites du médium photographique pour interroger les dynamiques du pouvoir et de la visibilité. Suite à la dissolution, après vingt ans, du partenariat créatif Broomberg & Chanarin, le premier projet solo de l’artiste revient à l’essentiel: utiliser la rencontre photographique pour critiquer notre expérience vécue. Chanarin se trouve souvent à la marge - dans des clubs fétichistes de banlieue, comme avec des acteurs amateurs se regroupant dans des salles paroissiales. A Perfect Sentence présente ses images comme des tirages en chambre noire inachevés et annotés, évoquant le territoire changeant de la photographie documentaire dans un pays fragmenté par la polarisation politique, l’isolement dû à la pandémie et la politisation de la question identitaire.
