Synopsis

A practical guide to the experience and treatment of eating difficulties…

Over the last thirty years, eating difficulties have become increasingly prevalent across the UK and worldwide. Written by clinicians, therapists and researchers, as well as those affected by eating difficulties and their families, this comprehensive book explores practical ways to help people with eating difficulties to live and thrive in their communities. It recognizes all experiences of eating difficulties as equally valid and worthy of support, and seeks to provide those with personal experience of these issues with comfort, affirmation, empowerment, a sense of agency and hope.

The chapters cover a huge range of important topics, including the role of social media and the fashion industry, eating difficulties in the context of autism, and how best to support the LGBTQ+ community and those from diverse religious backgrounds. It explores the value of exercise, nutrition and sleep, and considers support from parents and schools for children. A range of treatment options are also considered and evaluated, from established routes like CBT and inpatient care to more creative approaches such as writing, dance and equine therapy.
