Hadrian's Wall Path runs for 85 miles from coast to coast along the line of the Roman Wall completed in AD122 under the Emperor Hadrian. This National Trail crosses northern England from Irish Sea to North Sea and offers many chances to look at the forts, milecastles and interpretation centres within this UNESCO World Heritage Site. "I was most impressed by this guide. It contains a wealth of information, offers more detail, and fills in more gaps in my knowledge than I thought possible" said Compass Sport.
This guidebook is almost unique in giving equal space to walking the route from west-to-east and east-to-west. It explains clearly the pros and cons of each direction, with all you need to plan and enjoy a classic week's walking in a compact package:

After a long career in education, information technology and academic publishing, Jacquetta became interested in long-distance walking and trekking. After completing the West Highland Way, her first long walk, in 1998 she progressed to Mount Kilimanjaro, which she has since summited four times by different routes. She is a member of the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild and in 2016 won its Award for Excellence (jointly with Max Landsberg) for their jointly authored guidebook Trek to Everest. She has walked Hadrian's Wall Path twice, most recently east to west in 2025.
The late Gordon Simm was a keen hiker who had been walking National Trails since 1989. He was a talented landscape and wildlife photographer who had won awards for his work. He also wrote the Cleveland Way guidebook for Rucksack Readers.
