Ian McKinley played nine Test matches for Italy despite being blind in one eye following an on-field injury in 2010. Having initially been forced into retirement, his return to the sport and subsequent international debut in 2017 made sporting headlines around the world.

Gerry Thornley has been the rugby correspondent for the Irish Times since 1997. He is an acclaimed ghostwriter and has previously won the William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year in 2007 and the Irish Book Awards Sports Book of the Year in 2008. Amongst other works, he has ghostwritten best-selling books with Trevor Brennan, Ronan O’Gara and Peter Stringer.
