Synopsis

A multi-faith devotional with prayers and reflections from Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Western Christianity, Eastern Christianity, Islam and Alcoholics Anonymous.

There are a series of daily themes such as Welcoming the Day, Saying Thanks and Sorry, and Surrender. Each faith is allocated to a particular day: Sunday is Western Christian, Tuesday is Buddhist, Friday is Muslim, Saturday is Jewish. All can be used in a spirit of prayer and devotion.

Sikhism is in a separate section because Sikh prayers do not readily fit into a brief paragraph. A substantial extract from the earliest 'bani' or hymn comes a the end of the book.

The prayers witness to what all people of faith have in common, lifting our eyes and hearts upwards. The second half of the book brings out our differences. A very brief description in just 500 words is made of each religion in chronological order. (Hinduism took 780). For all of them I sought the guidance of a person of that faith, whether an imam or rabbi or Buddhist abbot or Orthodox priest. In preparing the book, I discovered many new things that I had not realised. These short accounts should be seen as a springboard for further exploration,
