Synopsis
When you play a sport for your country, take on challenges or become a world record holder, people invite you to share your stories to inspire others. The number one question, I am asked is “How did you do that?”
I wanted to write this book, not to say look at me, look what I’ve done. Instead more to share some of the lessons I have learned over the years and stories that have inspired me, in the hope that they may inspire you too.
I believe you are more than your name or indeed the numbers that are given to you throughout your life.
Yes, you are one individual and yet when several individuals come together the power is incredible.
1000 Paper Cranes
Sadako Sasaki was a young girl who as a 2-year-old baby was blown out of a window when the Hiroshima bomb hit.
She was lucky to survive however, she was affected by the radiation.
When her friend visited her, she was told about a legend that if you made 1000 origami cranes, you would be granted a wish. She started to make cranes and made 644 before her death.
It wasn’t a lack of motivation, she had the problem of finding the paper, some she made from toilet paper.
That’s what 1 girl did to keep hope to strive for a wish to stay alive.
However, what happened after is the power of numbers.
All her classmates formed a paper crane club and making thousands of cranes they were able to raise money to fund a memorial of their friend. Almost 3 years after Sadako had died her “Peace Memorial” still stands as a legacy of determination, hope and inspiration.
The power of a story, the power of numbers.
