Synopsis

What if the answers to your questions about life aren’t in words, but in what the words awaken within you?

In This One Life, a profound and intimate collection of poetry inspired by The Duino Elegies, the author explores the deepest questions of existence:

Who am I? Why am I here? Why do I feel the way I do? Is there a God? And if so, why is there so much hate and angst in the world?

As these poems unfolded, they revealed unexpected truths—insights into freedom, identity, love and the wisdom of the dying. The answers weren’t in the words themselves. They were in the emotions they stirred, offering healing, transformation, and personal revelation.

Readers describe This One Life as a book that doesn’t just speak to the mind, but to the soul. As one reviewer put it:

“I thought I was learning about the author; the woman I got to know a little deeper was myself.”
— JB Hollows, Mentor, Author of Wing of an Angel

If you are drawn to poetry that illuminates the unseen, challenges the depths of your being, and lingers in your heart long after the final page, This One Life is for you.

For seekers, dreamers, and those who long to understand life’s mysteries—this book is waiting for you.

"Maria Iliffe-Wood has draped herself in vulnerability, writing her truth softly, doing the work of unravelling our questioning souls."
—Autumn Bettinger, Fishtrap Fellow, 2024.

A propos du livre

À propos de l'auteur

Maria Iliffe-Wood's first, rather twee (her words!), poem called A Good Friend, was published in an anthology in 2002. She didn't write poetry again for twenty years. She is the author of Coaching Presence, an academic book for coaches, Daily Yarns, a social diary of the pandemic and A Caged Mind, a spiritual memoir. She is the founder of IW Press, a partnership publisher. She has come a long way since that first poem about friendship. She is especially proud of the poetry in This One Life.
