His response is to agree to renting an SUV and embarking all together on a road trip along the coast, taking in shantytowns, fine hotels, beaches and, at a low ebb, jail. Why do ‘mechanics’ keep appearing every time the truck mysteriously fails? Why are his credit cards failing just as frequently? Who’s zoomin’ who?

Coarse, irresponsible and wilfully ignorant, Froelich is nevertheless observant and caring at heart – and Belize is about the ways in which chaotic, complex human beings find community, no matter where they’re from or where they’re headed. Actor/playwright Steven Froelich was born and raised near Chicago, and has resided in London for over a decade. His first play, They Offered Bob and Wilma Cash, starred Sylvia Miles. His second play, Weekend In Rio, was workshopped at the Steppenwolf Studio in Chicago with Laurie Metcalfe in the lead, followed by public performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it received two Best Actress nominations. Oscar Zarate is an award-winning graphic novelist. His books include collaborations with Alan Moore (A Small Killing), Alexei Sayle (Geoffrey the Tube Train and The Fat Comedian), and Richard Appignanesi (Introducing Freud and Introducing Existentialism).
