Synopsis

Terry, a racist ex-soldier, and Robert, a Black Briton estranged from his Igbo heritage, arrive in Nigeria to begin expatriate postings. Isioma, enjoying life with her house-mates, maintains strong family ties. Their personal journeys unfold as they explore the bustling markets, late-night bars, and the overall mayhem of Lagos.

As their lives intertwine, a deeper connection binds them - a link to the Ede family and Nigeria's colonial past. During the 1949 IVA Valley Massacre, Agu Ede is shot by a British officer who is cursed by Ekwotosi, the Ede family matriarch.

Love blossoms between Terry and Isioma, despite his family back in London. Robert grapples with his cultural identity, as a visit to Isioma's family compound confronts him with his mother's legacy and the impact of the Biafran War.

When Terry mysteriously falls ill and is flown back to England, Isioma is left behind. Is the Ede family curse at play? The answer reveals a shocking connection to the 1949 massacre. Isioma, facing an uncertain future, embraces her heritage and a new opportunity, but a glimpse of an elderly woman leaves the reader wondering if the cycle of vengeance has finally ended.
