Whatever an "End of Life Carer" was, I never knew before the Pandemic arrived. I certainly never thought that as a 58-year-old bloke that I would ever become one. Then my cooking oil distribution company folded, and my life changed forever.

Three years later and my business is back but I am still a part time member of a team that looks after people, in their own homes, who are in the last 4 weeks of their lives, and I love it.

This book describes what happened over two days and 15 visits to palliative care patients to make me fall in love with the job. Fifteen visits to people coming to the end of their lives and supporting their families through that time.There are tears and drama of course but also joy and laughter. For me this is 'Nursing' at it's best and the team of Carer's I met at that time so skilled in so many ways. They know how to read the room, take anxiety out of difficult situations and provide a physical and emotional safety net for patients, relatives and friends. All Carer's do an amazing job but for me, Palliative Care carers become specialists in their own right.

Everyone's end of life has a story and this is a description of what some of those look like for most of us.

A former Psychiatric Nurse (Registered Mental Nurse) Having attained the position of charge nurse, he left the profession in 1992 to care care for his mother who was suffering with multiple sclerosis. During the eight years of caring for her until her death in 1999 he attained a BA Hons in performing arts and subsequently ran The New Route Theatre company with two friends for several years. He also became the head trainer for a training company teaching international communication and negotiation skills.In 2005 I started a cooking oil distribution company and over the years wrote children's adventure stories and provided writing story games to schools in East Anglia. He now continue to work for a Hospice while working continuing as a cooking oil supplier.
