Careful, He Might Hear You is based on the childhood of Sumner Locke Elliott. The setting is the great depression and times are tough. In the midst of this setting PB, an orphan, lives a secure working-class life in Sydney. That?s all about to change, however, when his Aunt Vanessa arrives from London and scoops him up to raise him as her own child. The winner of the prestigious 1963 Mile Franklin award in 1963, this has been hailed as one of the greatest accounts of childhood by an Australian writer.
