À propos des auteurs
Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) was raised in a conservative London household, where she nurtured her artistic and scientific interests through pets, art tools, and intimate contact with nature. Her stories were set in Scotland and the Lake District, where she visited for long holidays. Her early publications brought her enough money for her to buy Hill Top Farm in 1905 and she eventually bought more land to protect the beauty. She married William Heelis in 1913 and lived as a working farmer, becoming a famous Herdwick sheep breeder. Potter created 23 stories, beginning with The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902, noted for its simple, deadpan comedy and beautiful watercolours based on true observation. She was a gifted naturalist, studying fungi, contributing a paper to the Linnean Society and painting precise botanical paintings. As an entrepreneur she pioneered character merchandising, with Peter Rabbit the first licensed literary toy. She was a keen conservationist, a supporter of the National Trust and kept alive the farming traditions of the Lake District. Her legacy continues with her storytelling, scientific accuracy and lasting impact on children's literature.
