The Temple of Nature is a long poem dedicated, in Erasmus Darwin's own words, to "bringing distinctly to the imagination the beautiful and sublime images of the operations of Nature [and biological evolution]." Darwin describes the evolution of life from microorganisms to modern human civilization in beautifully poetic terms.
This early masterpiece predates his grandson Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection by about 60 years.
