My father was a columnist in Port Alberni for several years and created a column called This was Then. It featured reflections on the heritage and history of Port Alberni. It was always his dream to publish a book. Unfortunately he passed away in May 2011 and was unable to fulfill his dream. I edited and reworked a selection of his columns and then published them into a book format. I launched the first volume in August 2012. It was so popular it lead to a second volume which was launched in May 2013. These columns became a community record which helped preserve our heritage and presents it in a way which makes it accessible to the general public. This volume concludes the trilogy with all new stories and photos

I was born in Port Alberni on the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada. I have published six books so far with a few more in the works. I am a voracious reader and I have always kept a journal and enjoy writing. I went through several different career paths and was a fire fighter, a bingo hall worker, a crisis line worker, a teacher and most recently a sales person in the field of newspaper advertising which I have been in the for the last eight years. I went through a dark period of my life where I lost my daughter and then a few later I lost my parents eight months apart. After I completed the duties as an executor and I had the thought to edit and compile a volume of my dad Ike Patterson's column into a book format. This was something he had wished to do for several years. I am glad I was able to complete this project. It was met by such an outpouring of support and endorsement from the community, I was overwhelmed. The first volume was launched in August 2012. I then had the confidence and experience to tackle another writing project. I was holding onto a lot of unresolved grief and anger when my daughter passed away and I decided to create something positive out of that hurt. This lead to the creation of the book. "I Will Always Love You Ella: A Story of Loss and Healing". I found there were not very many grief and loss books out, especially from a man's point of view. It was tough to face some of these emotions and more importantly allow other people to see my vulnerabilities. I have many people come up to me and tell me how much the book meant to them and how it helped them when they needed it. My third project was the second volume of "This Was Then". The day I launched the first volume, people, were asking when the next one was coming out. There was never meant to be a second volume, however the demand made it necessary. I launched the second volume in May of 2013. I wanted to try something different for my next project which was a my sales book. It came out of seeing people in the sales field who had very little training and I saw the chance to provide some guidance and experience I had learned over the years. A common theme for my books has always been taking something that I have experienced which may have been negative and transforming it into something positive. I hope that the readers will enjoy my books and drop me a line. Please check out my website at www.krispatterson.com for more info!
