Hardcover. 352 pages. 8-3/4 by 11-1/4 inches. 'Following the arrival of the railroad at Klamath Falls in 1909, the lumber industry in south-central Oregon began an extended period of expansion. Fueled by unprecedented demand from the California fruit industry for wooden boxes in which to shop fruit to the markets of the Midwestern and Eastern states, the production of pine lumber in and around Klamath County increased dramatically. During the 30-year period ending in 1941, lumber output in Klamath County enjoyed a tenfold increase, So great was the demand for wooden fruit crates that many of the fruit-packing associations acquired and operated their own sawmills and box factories to assure themselves of an adequate supply of boxes at an acceptable price' --from the introduction. A very good hardcover copy with no dust jacket as issued. Some spotting to top of title page, otherwise a very nice copy. N° de réf. du vendeur 446916
