found this book really amusing and really fun to read. It covers a lot of material from preparing for baby's arrival to feeding and changing to first aid. I found the "Medical Maintenance" section really useful as I had never seen this in a parenting book before or perhaps I had never got that far. It explains everything from CPR to birth marks. As the title suggests it is written like a Haynes Manual and uses basic diagrams and refers the baby as "The Model" and suggests ways to ensure that your baby does not "malfunction". I found this quite comical but my Wife hated it. Having three children I don't think I learned anything from it but enjoyed reading it even if it is a little basic. I shall be passing it on to a friend who is due to become a father soon and would suggest that if any Mums to be want their partners to read up about what to expect to buy them this book. --Anthony...This book tells you how to unpack, programme and operate a new baby. The book is aimed more for dads then the mums. This owner s manual style book is written by 2 male paediatricians, totally geard towards blokes, It is very funny has wickedly amusing drawings and has lots of very useful information, particularly for a first time dad. It covers massage to breastfedding holds and every concern you could imagine. It s simple, straightforward and undaunting,. An excellent little book on childcare...Baby Budgeting, March, 2011....I discovered many such useful facts which have undoubtedly helped me prepare for fatherhood. As a slightly jittery, somewhat confused, but overall excited expecting father, this book has become a Godsend. This book combines humor with an effective style for logically-wired males like myself, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to cut to the chase and really prepare for what to expect in fatherhood, and avoid the 'what to wear to the baby shower' and other non-essential rhetoric. ...I laughed at the verbage used and the 50s or 60s style pictures and diagrams. I bought it immediately and have enjoyed it very much. Example on writing: they ask you to 'inspect' your model for all parts. Example of drawings: A circle with an adult holding a baby by the top of the head while the baby dangles with a line through the circle (as if to say 'Do not hold a baby by the top of the head). Obvious, but funny. I found it to by quite humorous. I've laughed out loud reading it. But I must say that this book has very good information on how to raise your 'model' (baby). If you are a new parent or know someone who is a new or soon-to-be parent who has a sense of humor, they will appreciate this book. Louis Borgenicht, M.D., and his son Joe Borgenicht, D.A.D. (more humor) have written a master piece in my opinion. I would enjoy reading this book if my kid was 25 or didn't have any. It's just plain entertaining (but, again, very well organized useful information is found within).... think of your standard baby care book but written like a VCR manual. But it's actually useful information; we had our first child born recently, and it's been really useful to us. I've ended up buying copies for friends, too. Once you figure out a few of the slightly less obvious 'terms' (like 'service provider' for 'doctor'), it's easy to read and avoids a lot of the editorializing and 'my baby was this way' found in similar books. Was very impressed with the quality of the book when i recieved it. My husband absolutley loved this book, i have tried to get him to read a lot of books but he liked the way this was set up like a Car manual bacause he said it didnt feel that he was reading a parenting book. Very amusing in parts and it puts a different spin on parenting books, i did feel like i was reading a joke book but was also learning a lot at the same time. Definitely recommend this book to anyone...On receiving the baby owners manual i was impressed at the quality of the front and back covers and the pages. I particularly liked the illustration on the front cover as did my eldest son :-). The book is set out very much like a haynes manual with simple cute diagrams and some step by step instructions for certain things like winding, feeding, carrying and even breatfeeding, something which i didnt expect to read about, it was covered really well, and it had tips on storing breatmilk and how to help latch the baby on. Its also had bottle feeding tips too. It is very light hearted and every "step" is short and to the point, i particularly liked the "safety and emergency maintenance" and the "programming sleep mode" sections, it had a very informative part on meningitis too. I think this book is aimed more at dads rather than mums but on saying that i enjoyed reading it and found it like a refresher course on babies for myself. I am going to lend it to my friends who are becoming parents again as i think it will appeal to them :-). I would recommend this book as it covers a wide range of subjects and has some really good tips and advice for new parents. It is definately worth the RRP.... This little book is aimed more at Dads, its set up like a Haynes car manual, its a fun way of looking at pregnancy starting from early pregnancy through to when the baby arrives, its informative and light hearted. I gave it to my husband to read and he laughed at lots of comments his favourite being about snoring, he enjoyed the book more so than I did. All in all a great little book, worth a read....
