This illustrated legend, set in Algeria, is presented as a 'pictorial opera' of love, hashish and tragedy in the time of Victorian erotica. The text is accompanied by gorgeous poems and songs. It also contains the first known illustrations and descriptions of true hashish hallucinations, as illustrated by the German artist Gottfried Sieben. All 50 of the original images are reproduced in this volume.

This deluxe limited edition is case-bound and slipcased with all of the original illustrations and colourful extras by illustrator Gottfried Sieben. It is limited to 418 copies all signed by Ronald K. À propos de l?auteur

Fritz Lemmermayer (1857-1932) was an Austrian writer, poet and journalist. He was a central and well-respected figure in literary circles at the time. Ronald K. Siegel, Ph.D. is a recognised world authority on drugs and drug literature. A former research professor at UCLA, he is the author of the critically acclaimed Intoxication (Park Street Press, 2005), has been featured in several TIME cover stories and has been a consultant to the World Health Organization. Gottfried Sieben (1856-1918) was an Austrian painter and illustrator. Hermann Schibli is a professor of Classical Studies who currently lives in New Hampshire. Crystel Gross is a Yiddish-to-English translator who lives in Florida.
