Soft cover. Etat : Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 112 pages. Published in 2009. Breakthrough debut collection of war photographs. One of the most important photographic debuts of our time. The First Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a tiny first print run as a softcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. The First Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Peter Van Agtmael and Photolucida: Oversize-volume format. Pictorial softcovers with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs and accompanying text by Peter Van Agtmael. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Peter Van Agtmael's "2nd Tour Hope I Don't Die". The precursor, and to a considerable extent, the basis of "Disco Night Sept 11". Still, the two books, both brilliant and harrowing, are somewhat different from each other. Whereas "Disco Night" is told with a "wider lens", examining in larger, broader, and more philosophical terms, the ultimate meaning, as it were, of war and war-bent America, "2nd Tour Hope I Don't Die" is Peter Van Agtmael's deeply personal account, in images complemented with text, of the wars he witnessed and experienced first-hand, not just "covered". As such, its raw power and visceral immediacy are unsurpassed. The title itself is a direct graffiti-quote from an anonymous soldier embarked on another perilous mission, poignantly sounding like he's hoping against hope. An absolute "must-have" title for Peter Van Agtmael collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed and inscribed in black pen on the title page by the photographer: "Thank you for your support, Peter Van Agtmael". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. The recipients are named, and are unmistakably personally known, even close to, to the artist. This title is a contemporary photography classic. This is one of few such signed and inscribed copies of the First Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online command as much as $450 even if they have serious flaws. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates. One of the most brilliant American photographers of our time. A fine copy. ISBN 1934334073. Signed by Author. N° de réf. du vendeur 20220
