Sir Josiah Child (c.1630 - 1699) was a merchant, member of parliament and a governor of the East India Company. He is one of the best known forerunners of economic liberalism and early proponents of classical economic theory. His works on economics and trade, particularly A Discourse About Trade (1690), were aimed at solving the economic problems that plagued England after the Restoration. Josiah Child, The Complete Works: Economics and Trade, is a complete anthology, in two volumes, containing all of the previously inaccessible works authored by and attributed to Child: Volume I: A Discourse About Trade (1690)
