How To Hunt Good is a compilation of true and humorous hunting stories that the author shares in hopes of encouraging the reader to enjoy and appreciate life. The book also details his battle with a serious disease that threatened his life and made him realize how precious life is, but more important, how precious friends are and why friendships are to be nurtured and valued. The author encourages the reader to appreciate every day and everyone in our daily lives (some more than others). He uses humor, which he feels is essential in keeping everyday problems and issues in check.
The author also shares stories of interesting, well known individuals that he had the opportunity to get to know through business contacts. He tells stories in the book that the reader would not normally learn about; certain individuals in the NFL, major league baseball, PGA, TV and film, etc., and from mainstream media. He feels that one can learn everything you need to know about an individual by spending an few hour in a duck blind, hunting rig, or fishing boat.
"Everyone faces challenges and difficult individuals in our daily lives," he writes. Sometimes, we take ourselves (and others) too seriously. We should be able to laugh often, and often at ourselves. "With all the failures of my early days in the woods, fields and forests, if I didn't laugh at myself, I'd probably be in a facility," Evans says. "I was encouraged to write this book based on my early hunting endeavors, (enhanced by humor), and because of a book by a friend, Andy Andrews, entitled Storms of Perfection." In his book, Andy asked celebrities from major league sports, business, and government from all walks to describe earlier failures in their life and how they overcame them to ascend to high levels of success. The book encourages the reader to live life to its fullest, to appreciate each day (especially those outdoors), and to laugh often.
