Robert Coon was referred to me at SeaStory Press by Key West’s longest operating bookstore, Key West Island Books, a perennial supporter of local authors and publishers. “Bob,” and his wife, Mary Lou, met with me and gave me a manuscript to evaluate. It was a basic “how-to” book, listing steps for simple card tricks and including pictures of the cards. Talking with them, I began to realize there was a backstory that was really much more interesting than just a set of directions. His lifelong pleasure in entertaining his family and friends with a simple pack of Bicycles was evident in his stories, and the couple was clearly delighted with their retirement in the magical Florida Keys. I suggested they rework the text to take a Key West slant on the tricks, and include some of their pictures of local sights. The result is this charming gift, intended for their wide circle of friends and family, but an entertaining and clever guide for anyone wanting to learn how to become The Life of the Party.
