Dr. Ruth L. Baskerville enjoyed forty-two years in public school education, serving as a high school English and theatre teacher, school administrator K-12, and member of central office in the capacities of human resources/personnel director, and curriculum and staff development director. “Dr. Ruth,” as she’s affectionately called, earned a B.A. in Secondary English from the State University College at Fredonia, NY, and an M.A. and Ed. D. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Seton Hall University, NJ. She held Principal and Chief School Administrator certification in NJ, FL and GA. She moved from New Jersey to Florida to be near her siblings, daughter and son-in-law, and four grandchildren. Dr. Ruth came out of retirement to become Principal of City of Life Orlando Christian Academy in Orlando, Florida for one year, having the opportunity to teach, as well as to be the instructional leader. It was especially enjoyable to begin each academic day with Chapel, and to pray with teachers and students. Dr. Ruth is Secretary to the Business Women Inspirational Network (BWIN), a member of the African American Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the TransLife Organ & Tissue Donation Center's Multicultural Committee. Besides being the published author of HOODLESS KLAN and FINDING HUMOR IN GRIEF, Dr. Ruth is an editor and ghost writer, grant writer, and tutor for students in grades K-12 needing GED, college prep or grade level promotion. She will soon publish her third book, BEAUTY FOR ASHES, about the sometimes sad, but very often funny life of a widow three years after losing her husband. When she’s not working, tutoring, or traveling to book signings, Dr. Ruth spends quality time with her family.
HOODLESS KLAN is the story of a charter school principal who was a thirty-eight-year veteran educator with a stellar record before accepting this position at Pine Woods Charter Elementary School. Dr. Grace Middleton knew how to create a positive school climate, empower staff to be risk-takers on behalf of the student clients whom they all served, and involve parents in meaningful decisions surrounding their children’s education. However, a group of manipulative, wealthy racists within the school system and the larger community boldly insisted that Dr. Middleton be complicit with them in taking unscrupulous actions against minority staff, parents and children. When she refused, they join forces with a key central office staff member and a compromised Board of Education to attempt to force her out of her job and out of that upscale township. It’s the classic story of righteousness versus evil, with the education of all children hanging in the balance. Remarkable efforts to discredit Dr. Middleton produced absurd fabrications about her job performance that caused the Board of Education to fire her. After the intervention of a top attorney, that Board rescinded her termination and she retired. Modern-day racism masks itself in the (hoodless) faces of some persons with power, affluence and influence, who know the right thing to do, but willfully choose the opposite actions without fear of consequences. Dr. Grace Middleton is the modern-day antidote to the poison of the Hoodless Klan!
