À propos de l'auteur

Simeon Pyzh was born in Wapienne in the Lemko Region in 1894. Caught up in mass arrests of suspected Russophiles at the outbreak of WW I, he was imprisoned in Europe’s first concentration camp of the twentieth century at Thalerhof before turning twenty-one. Drafted into service in the Austrian army on the Italian front, he defected to the Italians, recruiting hundreds of prisoners into the Italian Czechoslovak Legion. After receiving a doctorate in law at Prague’s Charles University, he came to the United States, where he devoted his life to his beloved Lemkos, helping establish the Lemko Relief Committee. He was a prolific writer and served as editor of the Lemko Assocation’s Karpatska Rus’ until his death in 1957.
