Pegged a Woman Ambassador, Shekina believes helping to develop healthy esteem and positive body image in girls is the key to tapping into their leadership capacity. She holds three degrees and worked extensively in the trenches in the school systems of North Carolina. All the years working with youth, Shekina began to notice that girls really did not have a voice. Too often, as she herself experienced, girls are recognized for their physical persons but seldom for their invaluable contributions. One day Shekina was watching a documentary on girls that spurred her to make a difference--differently. Where are the voices? Who is standing up for our girls? In 2013 Shekina founded Tween Style Power ™, a not-for-profit, whose mission is to empower tween and teen girls with positive body image, self-worth and leadership tools through mentoring and education. A six-time personal development Author, Shekina was named one of 52 Empowering Women Who Empower Girls along with The One World Doll Project's Stacey McBride-Irby, HGTV Property Virgin's Egypt Sherrod and WNBA President Laurel Richie. Featured in a host of publications, radio and TV shows, Shekina was also selected as a national semi-finalist for Proctor & Gamble's My Black Is Beautiful Ambassador Search (2014).
