Synopsis

THE work of missions is one of the most important and historically diverse aspects of church life and expansion. Those brave souls who have ventured far from the comforts of their own communities to make sure the Gospel spreads high and low throughout the world are a part of our histories; our memories; and our church membership. The unsung heroes of missions were often the first individuals who ministered in an area and who braved the unique facets of culture shock, change, language barriers, hostile governments, and misunderstandings of spiritual belief to change the way Christianity was understood and received by many.

Missions are not as visible as they used to be for many reasons, but this doesn’t mean they are gone from the scene. One of the major reasons we don’t see as much information about missions is due to the outdated nature of missions instruction and education, often presented through a denominational slant. In this textbook used as part of Apostolic Covenant Theological Seminary training, Dr. Lee Ann B. Marino, Ph.D., D.Min., D.D. provides important foundations and insights into missions for the modern minister. In this text, missions are viewed through a modern perspective, in light of current issues and events that missionaries face, and essential understandings that form the foundations of missions: Biblical multiculturalism, adaptation, missions in the Old and New Testaments, mission atmosphere and environment, the Ephesians 4:11 ministry in missions, and more. The hope of the nations is in Christ; learn how to reach them through modern missions, perfect for this time in history.
