Woodson's writing career started with the critically acclaimed novel, The Things I Could Tell You!, an English assignment written at age fifteen that was published by Macro Publishing Group when he was sixteen followed by becoming a co-author of How to Win the Publishing Game with Avalon Betts-Gaston, Esq. and Dr. Trevy McDonald at sixteen; a contributing author to the NAACP Image Award-winning anthology, Breaking the Cycle at seventeen, and Superwoman's Child: Son of a Single Mother at age nineteen which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literature.
