Not only does it bring joy but it invigorates the soul.”

About the Author

Barbara A. Akombo is currently pursuing a Master of Arts Education in Teaching and Learning at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. She holds an International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (IPGCE) from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) degree from Kenyatta University in Kenya. She has studied and completed advanced international correspondence courses with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) in London, United Kingdom where she has achieved graded music competencies and certificates in piano, singing, and music theory.

Ms. Akombo is an expert in musical composition, music teaching, and music performance. She has substantial experience as a music teacher with several prestigious international schools in Kenya, including St. Andrew’s Turi and Pembroke House School. Ms. Akombo is a member of the Classical Music Festival, a United-States-based organization with concert series housed in Vienna, Austria. Ms. Akombo has also performed with The Nairobi Music Society in Kenya, and she has given presentations at international conferences such as the Australian & New Zealand Association for Research in Music Education (ANZARME) and the 1st Performing Arts Conference in Kenya.

Barbra Akombo is a music student at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree. Barbra is an active member and singer with the Nairobi Music Society where she has successfully performed to an international audience such works as the Elijah Oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn and the Handel’s Messiah among others. Barbara also pursues music studies with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, and the Kenya Music Conservatoire in Nairobi. Barbara has traveled widely, including Florence, Italy and Vienna, Austria where she has performed with the Classical Music Festival at The Haydnsaal Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt, Austria.
