Synopsis

In this book of poetry, Al Black takes the reader along on his own personal path to the death of a parent - a journey all of us ultimately take. As Black grieves for his father's passage, his poetry still rises hopeful and full of the kind of wisdom that can only be won by deeply engaging in the experience of a parent's death.

"Al Black's collection of poems Man with Two Shadows is an honest powerful account of the loss of a parent that comes with middle age. Aggravated by the physical distance between the speaker and his father, the hard truth running through these poems is the tension of unresolved issues that goes back to childhood. Black's experiences are universal, and there is comfort in looking at this profound loss through his eyes." - Marjory Wentworth, South Carolina Poet Laureate
