Synopsis
Nineteen-year-old Cordwin finds himself lord of the land of Vorlik after his brother and sister-in-law are murdered. Their infant son is kidnapped. Rumor suggests the atrocities are the work of Sorcerers, members of a cruel race who want to bend humans to their will, but Cordwin finds this hard to believe. Sorcerers haven't been seen in Vorlik in centuries. Mad with grief, and desperate to find his nephew, Cordwin reluctantly agrees to his own coronation. At the ceremony, he is surprised by the appearance of the Wizard Briella, member of another ancient race that uses its power to protect the world. Briella has come to serve Cordwin and serve his people, for a prophesy warns that Vorlik will be the site of an awful war between Wizards and Sorcerers. Drawn to each other, yet kept apart by a terrifying vision, Cordwin and Briella face an ancient hatred that threatens to destroy them and the land they love.

Deborah Millitello wrote her first SF story, first poem, and first play in fourth grade, and has been writing ever since. She has sold 20+ short stories. Her first book, Thief's Luck, a YA fantasy, was published in 2006. The Water Girl, a YA fantasy, was published in 2015. A collection of her short stories, Do Virgins Taste Better? and Other Strange Tales was published in 2016. She loves gardening, making jams and marmalades, knitting, crocheting, baking, goof music, hot tea, and of course, reading. She lives with her husband Carl who has put up with her writing obsession for over forty-six years. She lives in a small town in southern Illinois and is retired.
