Synopsis
A Hand Up is the third in a series of novels in which Democrat Bob Jordan and Republican Mitchell Lawrence engage in an unprecedented collaboration designed to upset the status quo and to improve the nation and its governance. Now, as President and House Speaker they have embarked on a bold plan. The inner cities of America remain a High crime rates, drugs, gangs, and lack of opportunity result in continuing decline and racial tension. Jordan and Lawrence establish a program in which people in inner cities are offered “a hand up instead” of a hand out, which involves a collaboration between private corporations and the citizens themselves. But there are forces in the dark underbelly of politics who are interested in neither collaboration nor change and will do anything—even murder—to prevent Jordan from choosing Lawrence as his running mate in the upcoming election.
