Joan Mackland, a twenty-three year old Kiwi with no previous sailing experience, makes a bold statement of independence by becoming sole crew on a forty-foot sloop named, Atmosphere, bound from Guam to Hong Kong. On the high seas, life on board Atmosphere becomes routine, but in a nighttime storm in the middle of the Western Pacific Ocean, the captain is lost overboard, and Joan is thrown headlong into a desperate search that deteriorates into her own survival made more untenable by rookie mistakes that all but doom her and the boat.

Steve, a native Tennesseean, has lived and worked in Singapore, Venezuela, Australia, Ecuador and China. For the last three decades Bangkok, Thailand has been his home. He has been an off-and-on writer since age ten but became serious about writing and publishing after settling in Thailand. Unlike authors who focus on a single genre, Steve has written stories across multiple genre; science fiction (Terror Beneath The Bayou), literary fiction (Saving Moses), drama/adventure (Lady Alone) and his latest release, an absurdist mystery (Betwixt And Between). He is currently working on a sequel to Betwixt And Between.

A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Karen Paul Stone holds a BA degree in French and Spanish from the University of Kentucky and founded Waldenhouse Publishers, Inc. in 1995 near Chattanooga. She serves as Editor in Chief and principal designer. She is also Editor of McCoy Farm & Gardens Newsletter in Walden, TN. She was co-founder of Ashland Press in 1975 and for ten years a principal of Transylvania Printing Company, both in Lexington, KY. She is author of several books and writes for "The Mountain Mirror" newspaper.
