Synopsis

Irony and Jesus by The Rev. Rob Gieselmann helps readers discover the unexpected teachings of Jesus in parables, miracles, and stories.

Do some pastors have it wrong about Jesus?

Is it possible to understand the stories Jesus told differently?

The words of the Gospel can sometimes come across as stale or irrelevant in the context of modern culture. Does Jesus really expect you to sell all your possessions, or to love those who hate you? Or perhaps both Jesus and the Gospel writers were using literary devices to weave a variety of meanings.

As a priest in the Episcopal Church, Rob Gieselmann has a Master of Divinity degree and has preached the Gospel for over twenty years. Throughout his career in ministry, he often encourages people to look behind scripture’s veil of words to find new meaning. By doing so, you’ll discover new wisdom that you didn’t even know was there. Irony and Jesus presents twelve parables, stories, and actions of Jesus in a new light of playful irony. The irony is the surprise and the unexpected conclusion to events told in the Bible.

Readers will find that faith, grace, and Jesus were about so much more than straight-line living and teaching. Enjoy, rejoice, and begin to understand the Living God more deeply.

Parables, miracles, and stories include:

• Parable of the Sower
• Jesus/Peter Walking on Water
• Parable of the Landowner
