Synopsis

Some years ago, I began to choose a catchy poem, print it, and post it on the door of my office in the Department of English, University of Yaounde 1. The series was called “Poem of the Week”
These poems began to draw attention and raised a lot of discussion. Every week, a new poem was put up, and many students and some colleagues came to see the verse. Sometimes the discussions were heated.
Occasionally, I would put up the poem, shut the door, and listen to discussions from the budding and mature critics on the other side. Some poems stayed beyond a week, mainly because of the attention they received. The idea of the “Poem of the Week” became a new way of consuming poetry, available and accessible to all.
The present volume is a collection of the poems that have appeared on my door, at one time or another. They may be found in other collections but appear here in memory of the literary cogitations at my door. This is the first volume. Others will follow.
