Synopsis
Being a ranch hand since the age of 10 has prepared Qynne Preston to compete in a man’s world.
With a lot of hard work and trying confrontations, Qynne becomes a Pinkerton detective. In 1870 the agency sends her to the tall grass plains of West Texas to find an elusive mass murderer responsible for a string of killings. She plans to do this assignment without help, but the day she arrives in Spur, Texas she runs into Coley Byrd and finds out the killer is the cousin of the handsome Byrd’s deceased sister-in-law. He is investigating the case for his family and though she doesn’t want his help, Qynne and he are repeatedly thrown together. Sparks begin to fly.
Coley Byrd is attracted to the spunky, tough, opinionated, and independent Pinkerton Qynne Preston. He doesn’t know who broke her heart in the past, but it’s clear she’s living with the consequences of heartache. No matter how hard he tries his flattery can’t sway the beautiful, wild red-head’s saucy manner. He can’t stop himself and tries to pursue a relationship, but finding the killer has to come first.
Working together has forced Qynne to get to know Coley. However, that aside, she is determined to protect innocent people from the murderer. A gun fight ensues and after the smoke settles from it and a raging prairie fire on the Byrd Ranch, Qynne slips away in the night to rejoin her pa at their home. She thinks she is ridding herself of the stubborn cowboy, Coley Byrd. His injuries are serious, and she knows he can’t follow her.
Coley realizes Qynne has disappeared, and he is determined to find her. Will he succeed in persuading her she loves him too, or will his quest to make her his wife lead to danger?
