Synopsis

Imprints from an Odyssey is a description of the early 1970s, a portrait of wonderful pockets of people in diverse places, and the story of a young man using trial and error to discover himself.

After graduating from college in 1971, the author owned a degree in literature, a backpack and a strong desire to find his path in life. His journey began with more questions than answers. His travels turned out to be rich in multiple ways.
As he moved from job to job and city to city, the author had no camera. This book is his record of the people he met and the places he experienced.

While the author is the central character in Imprints from an Odyssey, the book is not about him. It is a sequential series of portraits of special people and wondrous places, each of which made an imprint on the author and had a deep influence on his life.

The book is a series of simple vignettes that fit tightly together. In telling the story, the author has tried to stay true to Wallace Stevens's concept of not presenting ideas about the thing, but the thing itself.

À propos de l'auteur

Roger Neumaier was raised in the north country of Hibbing and Moorhead Minnesota. As the son of a Holocaust survivor, Neumaier's writings focus on social intolerance and the search for understanding of life's challenges in this crazy world. Roger is a right brained thinker who works to appreciate and understand the nuances of the world. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Carleton College in 1971, Roger spent three years traveling throughout the United States and Europe working in minimum wage jobs. In 1971, he settled in the Puget Sound Area of Washington State and continued as a blue-collar worker. In 1980, without the benefit of any finance education or work experience, he passed the CPA exam. Roger retired in 2014 after more than three decades as an innovative CPA and CFO and resides in Edmonds, Washington and enjoys writing. He is married and has three adult children.
