Stacey Berger enjoyed a childhood filled with happiness and love; it was very much like a fairy tale. The oldest of three sisters, with parents that loved each other dearly, Stacey grew up in an affluent Jewish, upper-middle class family in the suburbs of Philadelphia. She had almost everything her little heart could have ever desired. The Bergers did everything as a family. It was a closeness so strong it may be regarded by others outside the family as strange. In 1989, a horrific tragedy fell upon the Berger family: a United Airlines flight crashed into the cornfields of Sioux City, Iowa. Stacey’s Uncle Kenny, her dad’s brother, was on this plane, along with his wife, Stacey’s Aunt Aviva, and two of their three children. Stacey’s aunt and uncle perished in the flight but her cousins survived and went to live with the Berger family. And that is where the fairy tale ended and the nightmare began... Writing this book was provided a much-needed catharsis for Stacey to get her unique, powerful story out. After so many years of carrying around such awful, heartbreaking memories, Stacey needed to get out of her head and placed somewhere else. And, in doing so, Stacey hopes to bring comfort and help to others who have experienced family trauma and help them realize they are not alone. And now, with her memories written down, Stacey can create a new, clear path into her future.
