This book is about discerning the conversion of John Calvin. At the same time, my intention is that Christians who read and study Calvin’s conversion are also discerning their own. ‘Discernment’ is an act of perception or grasp. The verb ‘discern’ is transitive because it refers to objects. These objects can be things; for example, I see something. The objects of our discernment can also be thoughts, ideas, or insights that help us explain or understand facts and their relationship to each other. Common sense describes practical, everyday discernments that enable us to figure out problems and get things done. Science describes the methods and results of experimentation that analyze and describe our world.
